Why This Career

Three things you won’t find in most careers.

Insurance isn’t glamorous on paper. But for the agents who get it right, it checks every box that most careers never do — simultaneously.

Your Schedule. Your Territory. Your Business.

No office politics. No mandatory overtime. No performance-review cycle determining your ceiling. You decide when you work, where you focus, and how fast you grow. Build a business that fits your life — not a job that consumes it.

Unlimited Earning Potential.

Insurance agents earn commission on every policy placed — and renewals every year a client keeps their coverage. The harder you work and the more families you help, the more you earn. There is no ceiling, no performance band, and no one deciding what you’re worth but you.

Work That Actually Matters.

Every appointment is a family that gets to sleep a little easier. Every policy placed is a mortgage that won’t go unpaid, a child whose education is protected, a spouse who won’t lose everything. This is not just sales — it’s financial advocacy that shows up when people need it most.

Who Thrives Here

You don’t need a sales background. You need the right instincts.

The most successful agents we’ve seen didn’t come from insurance. They came from nursing, teaching, the military, retail management, and small business ownership. What they had in common: they genuinely care about people, they can hold a conversation, and they don’t quit when things are hard.

If any of these sounds like you — keep reading.

🗣

The Natural Communicator

You light up a room. People trust you quickly and open up easily. You explain things clearly without losing anyone. You’ve always suspected you could do something with that gift. This career was built for people exactly like you.

🏢

The Corporate Escapee

You know how to work hard. You’ve proven it. But you’re tired of your effort going into someone else’s bottom line. You want what you put in to directly determine what you take home — not someone else’s budget cycle.

🏠

The Parent Re-Entering the Workforce

You want flexibility above all else. A career that works around school pickup, summer schedules, and your family’s needs — not the other way around. Insurance commissions don’t care what hours you worked them in.

🤝

The Network Builder

You know a lot of people. You’re the one everyone calls for advice, referrals, and recommendations. You already spend time connecting people to resources. Now imagine getting paid for the trust you’ve already earned.

The Side Hustle Turned Main

You’ve been looking for income that doesn’t require trading every extra hour for a few more dollars. Insurance commissions compound. Renewals create a passive base. One strong quarter can fund the next six months.

💡

The Purpose-Driven Professional

You didn’t get into your field just for the paycheck. You want your work to mean something — to leave a mark. This career gives you both: financial rewards that grow with your effort, and the knowledge that your work changes lives.

Income Potential

What does this career actually pay?

Here’s an honest look at what agents in this field typically earn at different stages — based on full-time effort, consistent activity, and working the process. Part-time commitment produces part-time results, and results are never guaranteed.

Getting Started
Year 1
$30K–$80K+
Year one is about learning the system, building your pipeline, and closing your first policies. Full-time agents who work the process consistently often earn $40K–$80K. Part-time agents typically earn $20K–$40K.
Your Book of Business
Year 4+
$100K–$250K+
Seasoned agents with a mature book earn from both new placements and renewals. Many successful agents reach a point where renewals alone cover their baseline living expenses — and new business is pure growth.
Income examples are illustrative only and reflect possible outcomes — not guarantees. Insurance is commission-based and individual results vary significantly based on activity level, effort, market conditions, product mix, and personal skill. Past performance of other agents does not predict your results. Always conduct your own due diligence.
Your Path to Licensed

Five steps from “interested” to your first commission.

You don’t need a license to reach out. You don’t need experience to get started. You need a conversation — and we’ll take it from there.

Get Licensed in Your State

In Georgia, you’ll need a Life, Accident & Sickness license from the Georgia Department of Insurance. The state exam covers insurance fundamentals and Georgia-specific regulations. We’ll point you toward the right prep resources from day one.

2–4 weeks study
3

Pass the State Exam

The Georgia licensing exam is proctored and covers life insurance, health insurance, and state regulations. Most candidates pass on the first attempt with proper preparation. Once you pass, your license is issued within a few days and you’re ready to contract.

What You Get

You’re building your own business. You won’t be doing it alone.

The biggest reason new agents fail is not lack of effort — it’s lack of direction. We fix that from day one.

“I spent years figuring out what works so the agents I work with don’t have to spend years making the same mistakes. Everything I’ve built, tested, and refined — the scripts, the systems, the carrier relationships — is available to you from your first week.”

Learn how to build your personal brand, position your digital presence, and generate referrals without cold-calling strangers forever. We’ll help you develop a sustainable lead pipeline that compounds over time.

A note from Tamika

I didn’t get into insurance for the commission. I got into it because I kept watching people I cared about go through the worst moments of their lives without any financial cushion. A funeral nobody could afford. A mortgage payment that stopped. A family learning a policy had lapsed right when they needed it most.

I built Legacy Protection Co around a simple belief: every family deserves an agent who actually shows up. Not with a one-size-fits-all product — with a real conversation, a real plan, and coverage that works when it has to.

If you’ve ever felt like your job wasn’t big enough for who you are — I’d love to talk. I’m not promising easy. I’m promising meaningful.

Common Questions

Answers to what people actually ask.

Do I need prior sales or insurance experience to become an agent?
No prior experience is required. Many of the most successful agents come from backgrounds completely outside sales or finance — teachers, healthcare workers, military veterans, retail employees. What matters is people skills, work ethic, and a genuine desire to help. Everything else is teachable.
How long does it take to get a Georgia insurance license?
The Georgia Life, Accident & Sickness license typically takes 2–6 weeks from start to finish. Most people study for 2–4 weeks, schedule their state exam, and pass within that window. We’ll point you toward the right preparation resources from your very first conversation.
How are insurance agents paid?
Insurance agents earn commission — a percentage of the premium on each policy placed. Most life and health products also carry renewal commissions, meaning you earn income every year a client keeps their policy active. There is no base salary. Your income is entirely a function of the policies you place and the clients you retain.
Am I a W-2 employee or a 1099 independent contractor?
You are an independent contractor (1099). This means you set your own schedule, choose your territory, and run your own business. You are responsible for self-employment taxes and your own benefits. The trade-off is complete autonomy over your time and your income potential — which is why most agents who make this switch never go back.
Do I have to recruit other agents to earn money?
No. Recruiting is entirely optional. You can build a fully successful career placing policies for families without ever recruiting another agent. Some agents eventually choose to build their own team — that’s a separate conversation for when the time feels right.
What products will I be selling?
Life insurance (term and whole life), mortgage protection, supplemental health benefits (critical illness, cancer, accident, hospital indemnity), and final expense coverage, among others. You’ll be matched to carriers and products based on your licensed states, your client base, and the needs you encounter. The goal is to find the right fit for each family — not push a single product.
Can I start this career part-time while keeping my current job?
Yes. Many new agents begin part-time while maintaining other income. Part-time agents typically work evenings and weekends during ramp-up. Income naturally reflects the number of appointments and hours invested. Many of our most committed agents started part-time and transitioned to full-time after their first significant commission month.
How quickly can I place my first policy and earn a commission?
Most agents place their first policy within 1–4 weeks of completing licensing and onboarding. Commission timelines vary by carrier — most pay within 1–3 weeks of policy approval. Some simplified issue products pay the same week. Your first commission is closer than you think once the licensing piece is done.
